Exum Senior Guide Tom Hargis Awarded IFMGA Certification

Photo: Exum collectionOn October 30, the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA) formally awarded Exum Senior Guide Tom Hargis their prestigious certification. It was presented at the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) annual meeting in Moab, Utah.  IFMGA is the highest level of certification available for mountain guides, and Tom is honored to be a member of this elite group.

Tom has been a mountain guide for 38 years, and he has guided for Exum for 15 years. He currently serves as Exum’s Technical Supervisor and is both an instructor and examiner for the AMGA. As a further measure of his peer’s respect, in 2004 the AMGA awarded Tom the Lifetime Achievement in Guiding Award. Few other American climbers have been so highly venerated.

Tom’s climbing and guiding accomplishments are many, and all of us at Exum extend our congratulations for his achievement.

Other Exum Guides who have achieved IFMGA certification include: Bill Anderson, Kevin Mahoney, Kent McBride, Nat Patridge, Mike Poborsky and Christian Santelices.
