This is the famous sidewalk section of Wolf’s Head in the Wind Rivers’ Cirque of the Towers. My brother Mike and I did this with Exum Guide Nat Patridge and had a brilliant time. Wolf’s Head by this route, one of America’s 50 Classic Climbs, is given 5.6 and climbs up the airy sidewalk and around several towers on the summit. One nifty hand traverse with not much for feet. It’s spectacularly high and exposed (but of course well-protected with Exum guides leading the way); a real thrill. The granite of the cirque is some of the best around, solid and sticky. Pingora is another must-climb, several great routes there–pressed for time we did a couple of routes on the south buttress (K cracks), and will have to go back for the long, classic NE face route. You can’t go wrong anywhere here.

Jim Williams is a great guy and guide. I only got to learn from him over a 3 day training session and climb last August. I am happy to have met Jim and he has changed my life forever! Through his leadership and patience, I able to overcome my fears, learn new skills and have success climbing on the Grand. I now climb mulitple times a week and look forward to new challenges and adventures. If it had not been for Mark, Jim, Amy, and Ben, my life would be not be as adventuresome now. I would like to congratulate Jim on being honored with this year’s Lowell Thomas Award. You deserve it and your accomplishments both personally and professionally speak for themselves. I hope to be in Jackson in August and look foraward to climibng with Jim and Exum in the near future. Thank you for changing my life for the better and allowing me understand more about myself.

Congratulations to Torrey Wyatt. Climbing the “seven summits” of the Tetons is quite an accomplishment and you should be proud. I am sure your parents are proud of you also.

Bravo Jimmy—after all these years of knowing you, and seeing you follow your heart’s desires, it’s wonderful to know that doing so has brought you to this award (and many others). You have made a masterful art of doing what you love and teaching others to be inspired to also follow their hearts. I am honored to call you friend and am just so proud that you have received the Lowell Thomas Award!! Growing up with you back in the Yosemite days, then onward to Canada, and helping with the first successful US Ascent of Mt. Rudshekonka right on up to present day, it still puts me in awe of you and your accomplishments. Alice is soaring with joy for your life lived so well!! CONGRATULATIONS!! Anyone who doesn’t know Jim is missing an experience not to be missed. He is an amazing mix of knowledge, experience, kindness, adventure, grit, intuitiveness, inspiration, practicality AND Global Explorer.
