Buck Mountain
Like many Teton peaks, Buck Mountain (11,938) offers the climber a wide selection of routes.
The North Face is cleaved by two prominent couloirs, both of which, amazingly, have been skied by Exum guides.
The southern aspect contains hard rock climbs that are rarely done and which must be approached from Death Canyon.
Exum usually guides Buck via the East Ridge. The long approach up Steward Draw to Timberline Lake is strenuous, but the display of wildflowers is exceptional even by Teton standards. The route can be done in one very long day or with a camp at Timberline Lake. In early season the ridge is usually covered with snow and provides a pleasant snow climb. At times the ridge become sharply defined and the exposure is intimidating. Later in the summer it is a scramble, although a rope will be appreciated. The summit presents splendid view of the central Teton peaks.
