Like the Tetons, Yosemite and the Shawangunks, The Needles is one of America's famous rock climbing areas. It offers hundreds of face and crack climbs for climbers of all ability. Many of them are traditional routes up to three pitches in length that end in sharp needle-like summits. Others are bolted sport climbs. Descents from the higher summits often require two rappels. Endless sport climbing also may be found in nearby Spearfish Canyon, which was developed by former Exum guides Cindy Tolle and Pete Delannoy.
