Learn to Lead Seminar
Exum's Learn to Lead climbing program is designed for the climber who is ready to take the next step and learn the art of lead climbing. The goal of this course is to introduce you to the skills necessary to lead climbs that require the placement of traditional protection. It is designed for people who have experience with outdoor top rope climbing and who have seconded traditional climbs.
Each course is designed to cover specific techniques and systems in a simple, progressive manner with each day building on the previous day. The techniques taught in our Learn to Lead course have been accumulated and meticulously refined by Exum Mountain Guides and professional Mountain Guides throughout the world.
Our five day Learn to Lead course is designed to improve ability and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills in a traditional multi pitch climbing environment. Days 1 and 2 cover equipment, climbing movement, belaying, rappelling, placing protection, building anchors, top rope set up and improvised self rescue. Days 3 thrrough 5 cover the mechanics of a lead climbing fall, fall factors, proper body position while leading, rope management at a top anchor and a hanging belay station, top rope set up and anchor construction, mock leading of a bolted route, leading of a bolted route, mock leading of and anchor construction of a crack climb using traditional protection and finally multiple lead climbs and anchor construction of various crack climbs using traditional protection.
Exum's Learn to Lead climbing program is offered at the following locations; The City of Rocks in Idaho, Sinks Canyon in Wyoming and Eldorado Canyon in Colorado.

Plus travel expenses for the guide(s): $100-$300 per guide plus food and camping expenses, depending on location.
