The Jaw

The Jaw (11,400) is an angular peak at the upper end of Hanging Canyon. It is easier than Cube Point, but farther up the canyon, past Arrowhead Pool, Ramshead Lake, and Lake of the Crags. The hike is among the most beautiful in the park, a paradise of water, rock, sky, and flowers. An ice axe is required for early season climbs. The East Face is a scramble, though, again, in early season a rope and ice axe will be appreciated.

The hike and climb provide a long, beautiful day in the mountains, capped by fine views of the Cathedral Peaks—Teewinot, Mount Owen, and the Grand Teton. On hot summer days a dip in either Ramshead or Lake of the Crags is a pleasant diversion. Take your time on this climb. Enjoy the flowers.
