Eldorado and The Flatirons

The Exum Boulder program is sponsored by LaSportiva!

Eldorado Canyon is one of the most spectacular climbing areas in North America, and the historical hub of hard rock routes in Colorado. Located fifteen minutes south of Boulder and within an easy hour drive from Denver, Eldorado (or "Eldo" as it is called by the cognoscenti), offers over 600 routes for climbers of every level of ability, from short, easy climbs on the Wind Tower to severe test pieces that will challenge the hard-core rock star. The main wall, Tower Two, raises 800 feet above South Boulder Creek and faces south. Even during spring and fall, Eldorado tends to be warm, and on pleasant days in winter resident climbers will be found on the major routes.

The climbing is steep and offers everything from delicate edging to hard cracks and monster overhangs. Parking is in a state park and access is easy—usually a few minutes walk. The climbing area is so concentrated that it is simple to change your itinerary, try harder (or easier!) ascents, move into the shade on the south side of the canyon, or jump on another climb if your intended route is crowded. Multiple routes are quite possible in a single day. A fifteen or twenty minute stroll will take you away from the crowds. Eldorado is justly famous and the climbing is, as the kids say, awesome.

The Flatirons are another wonderful climbing area near Boulder. The First Flatiron is 1,000 ft. of high quality climbing with breathtaking views of the city and mountains. The adventure starts at Chautauqua Park, one of Boulder's most popular spots. The rock is solid and the climbing level is moderate. The Third Flatiron is touted as the best beginner's route in North America. It rises abruptly into the sky and challenges climbers with 1,300 ft. of relatively easy climbing. It too is an adventure with interesting climbing that is appealing to beginners and veterans alike. The rappel descent drops into what can only be described as an enchanted forest and from there you will hike back to Chautauqua Park.

Whether you choose a climb in Eldorado Canyon or on one of the Flatirons, we will provide a great day of climbing.
