Multi-Pitch Climbing - Level I
Exum's Multi-Pitch Level I is a full-day course that covers the fundamentals of climbing, including equipment, tie-ins and knots, rope management, footwork and movement, belaying, rappelling, and the all-important transitions during multi-pitch climbs. Many of our climbers arrive at Exum as complete beginners and others arrive with only indoor climbing gym experience or minimal outdoor climbing experience. Multi-Pitch Level I is designed to teach all of the basic skills to these introductory climbers, and to help them acquire the additional skills necessary for outdoor, "real-world" crag climbing and mountaineering.
The class emphasizes participation and teamwork, an approach that guarantees an increased sense of satisfaction in climbing the Grand Teton, and a critical component when climbers are belaying one another as a single roped party. The "Exum System" has been fine-tuned for nearly 80 years and works exceptionally well in the terraced terrain of the Teton Range.
By the end of the day participants will be full of information and helpful tips for remembering their newly acquired skills. Even people who have climbed before marvel at how much they learn in our Level I School. And last, no one can match the stellar setting of Exum’s classroom--the slabs, cliffs, and surrounding peaks at Hidden Falls, a mile west of Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park.
