Approaching the Summit of the South Teton

During the last week of May, Sam Axelrod and Ted Farley participated in the 2009 Exum Ski Mountaineering Camp. We had a successful 5 days even though the temperatures were warm for the duration. During the camp we skied for 2 days in the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort backcountry after accessing Rendezvous Mountain via the new tram. We then skied for 3 days in Garnet Canyon and made ski descents of the South Teton, Spaulding Peak and Nez Perce. This picture shows Ted and Sam climbing to the summit of the South Teton.

The gorge is surrounded by 3,000 to 5,000 foot tall rock walls and is located just southeast of Denali 20,320 ft, the largest peak in North America. Story to follow in the “What’s New” section.
